Lesson 11: Bending Bending is a simple technique that when applied properly can add great effects to songs and solos. This will come in very useful when we're focusing on soloing in a few lessons.
As you can see in the image above, to perform a bend the guitarist pushes a string up, or pulls it down to increase the tension, and "bend" the notes pitch. It's not really something I can easily type out and show you. Practise playing a note that is a half step up, then bending the first fret to match it's pitch. The biggest mistake you can make is not paying attention to how far your bending, and just bending and hoping for the best. Play a major scale, but bend each note up to the next.
Vibrato is a spin off effect from bending, where you bend up and down very quickly by small shifts in your wrist. Many guitar players try to do this with their fingers, but if you can learn to apply a vibrato to a note with wrist movement it will serve you better down the road.
